Slumber Party
When deciding to throw a slumber party you should invite the
number of kids you will feel most comfortable with. Too many
kids and chaos will be the outcome. Four to six kids are the
usual size for a slumber party, but you may want more. Try to
keep an even amount of children in case any games that are played
need even teams. Most people think of a slumber party as all
girl parties, but often boys will have slumber parties too. These
are usually referred to as sleepovers. Parental supervision should
be provided at all slumber parties whether co-ed or not. Put
together a “to do list” when first planning your
slumber party. On your list should be, who will be invited, what
food will be served, and any items needed to be purchased. Also
be sure your home is a safe place to have a group of children.
Buying invitations can be exciting. Many slumber parties have
themes and deciding on a theme is half the fun. A Luau slumber
party can include Hawaiian leis for the all the guests along
with a pineapple pizza and tiny umbrellas in the drinks. Or maybe
you’d prefer a music theme. Decorate with old LP’s
on the walls, or a light display that beats to the music. Whatever
the theme your guests will be sure to have fun. Include in the
invitation what the guests will need to bring. Include pillows,
pajamas, and sleeping bags on the list. Be sure to have some
spare pillows and blankets for those guests that forget. The
host of the slumber party should provide snacks along with something
for dinner. Pizza is a favorite and popcorn is a common snack.
Don’t forget that in the morning the kids are likely to
wake up hungry. Anything from donuts to cereal will work for
breakfast.
Before the guess arrive, make sure you have clearly established
which rooms are off limits. Placing a big arrow sign on the bathroom
will make your young party guests feel more comfortable. Most
slumber parties will include a movie video as entertainment.
Depending on the age of the children you can select from general
audience approved movies or if you have selected a PG movie,
you should include this information on the invitation. This will
give the parents of guests the opportunity to decline or ask
you to reselect your choice of movies. Remember; don’t
expect the kids to go to sleep early. Slumber parties can be
really fun and safe for everyone if you plan carefully.
